A Toledo auto parts supplier and a steel-mill maintenance company have been fined by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration for safety
violations.
New Mather Metals Inc., of 5270 N. Detroit Ave., was fined $5,850 for 20 violations detected during a lengthy inspection in August. Most offenses stemmed from failure to disconnect power to manufacturing robots while repairs were made. The
company originally was fined $13,500 but the fi gure was reduced in a settlement.
The firm, which makes stabilizer bars for vehicles, has to fi x the problems by Dec. 21.
Voest-Alpine Services & Technologies LLC, of Milan, Ohio, which is in Huron County,
was fi ned $6,750 for violations that occurred Oct. 9. A worker was applying sealant to a roof and fell 18 feet through a skylight that had no safety rails or net system to prevent injury, OSHA said. The firm, a subsidiary of the Siemens Group, was
originally fi ned $9,000 but the fi gure was reduced in a settlement corrections by Dec. 20.
