March 26 trial date setfor Fostoria police chief

TIFFIN Fostoria police Chief John McGuire is scheduled to go to trial March 26 in Seneca County Common Pleas Court on two counts of tampering with records and two counts of falsification.

Chief McGuire, 37, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of misrepresenting his credentials earlier this year when applying for the police chief s job. Last month, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The tampering charges, which are third-degree felonies, carry a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine upon conviction. The two falsification charges are misdemeanors punishable by 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Chief McGuire remains on the job.
