Sentencing hearing delayed in riot case

A sentencing hearing for the last man convicted of a felony stemming from the Oct. 15, 2005, riot in North Toledo has been postponed until Feb. 22.

Donnell Summers, 26, appeared briefly yesterday before Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles Doneghy. He was to be sentenced on an aggravated riot charge, a fourth-degree felony, to which he pleaded no contest in January. He faces up to 18 months in prison.

More than 115 criminal cases stemmed from the riots that started after members of a neo-Nazi group were to march in North Toledo following a dispute between neighbors, one white and one black.

Toledo police canceled the march, but the crowds that gathered became confrontational with safety personnel, burned down a bar, and looted convenience stores.
