Woman testifies in trial of Toledoan, 48, for rape
9/11/2007The trial of a Toledo man accused of breaking into his former neighbor s apartment and raping her began yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
O Dell Welch, 48, is charged with two counts of rape and one count of aggravated burglary. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison on each account.
During the first day of testimony, the complainant told how she awakened, after a night of drinking, with a man in her room. She said she saw Mr. Welch leaving her room and realized she had been raped.
The trial is being heard by a jury of six women and seven men, including one alternate, with Judge Ruth Ann Franks presiding.
