South Toledo man in stolen SUV case arraigned

A South Toledo man accused of leading police on a chase while driving a stolen sport utility vehicle Sunday was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court, authorities said.

Victor Allen, 24, of 1775 Buckingham St., was charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, and cited for driving without a license. He was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $10,250 bond.

OnStar personnel notified a dispatcher about 11:15 a.m. Sunday that a 2005 Cadillac Escalade SUV, which had been reported stolen by the Fostoria Police Department earlier that day, was parked in the area of Islington Street near North Detroit Avenue, police said.

Officials at OnStar later told authorities the vehicle had moved and was near West Bancroft Street, police said. Police units were dispatched to the area and Toledo police Sgt. Keith Miller saw the SUV near Grand and Smead avenues.

The SUV continued south on Smead toward Norwood Avenue and then west onto Upton Avenue, where Allen drove over several curbs and hills, causing the vehicle's wheels to deflate, police said.

After driving over another curb, the vehicle came to rest in the 1500 block of Milburn Avenue, police said.

Allen tried to flee the disabled vehicle, but was tackled by a Toledo police officer, causing some bruises, cuts, and contusions to his face.

The suspect also had other minor injuries to his chin and face and was treated at the scene, police said.

Allen then was taken to Toledo Hospital and was booked into the county jail upon his release from the hospital, police said.

A passenger in the vehicle was not charged, police said.
