120 workers to lose jobs at JAC auto-parts plant

About 120 unionized employees at the JAC Products Inc. plant in Monclova Township will be out of a job next spring after the automotive component company announced that it planned to close its facility on Maumee-Western Road in spring, 2009.

Employees of the facility, who are members of United Auto Workers Local 12, assembled products such as roof rails and bed-rail systems for domestic and foreign automakers.

Don Munoz, JAC vice president of marketing and sales, said the Pontiac, Mich., company opted to shift assembly operations that were centralized in Monclova Township to JAC manufacturing factories, in part because of rising fuel and logistics costs.
