Mich. girl to be arraigned for fatal poisoning

5/1/2008

ADRIAN - A 15-year-old girl accused of fatally poisoning her grandmother waived her right yesterday to a preliminary examination in Lenawee County District Court.

The case of Kristina Lynn Adkins was bound over to probate court. She will be arraigned Wednesday on charges of poisoning, open homicide, and three counts of attempted murder.

The girl is accused of mixing doses of morphine with her grandmother's medicine over three consecutive days in July, 2006. The medication reportedly was prescribed to her grandmother's husband.

Virginia Bentley, 53, Young Adkins' grandmother and legal guardian, died of an allergic reaction to the potent painkiller, an investigation by the medical examiner determined.

Young Adkins has been held without bail since December. She is being prosecuted as an adult.
