HCR Manor Care names care-quality committee

5/6/2008

HCR ManorCare Inc., a Toledo company that operates more than 500 nursing home and rehabilitation centers across the country, has named a three-member committee of doctors to advise the private firm s board on quality-of-care issues.

The company named to the committee Vincent Mor, chairman of the Department of Community Health at Brown University s Warren Alpert Medical School; Robyn Stone, executive director for the Future of Aging Services; and Gail Wilensky, an economist and senior fellow at Project HOPE.

The company, which was purchased by the Carlyle Group in December, had promised during the transaction last year to form the advisory committee. The Service Employees International Union has said the company has quality problems in its homes and said it feared the purchase would create more problems.
