A Toledo police officer will appear in Sylvania Municipal Court next month on charges that he prevented his wife from leaving their apartment and kept her from calling 911 during an argument, authorities said.

Officer Richard A. Wilson, 50, of Springfield Township, was charged with misdemeanor unlawful restraint and felonious disruption of public service, court documents show.

He was released on his own recognizance from custody after turning himself into the Lucas County Sheriff s Department.

The suspect and his wife, Erika Wilson, 44, were arguing about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, after he asked her for money. She had accused him of using her son s computer to look at pornographic Web sites the day before. Mrs. Wilson told deputies her husband refused to let her use the phone. When she tried to leave their apartment, her husband grabbed her wrists and blocked the doorway, records show.
