Opening statements are to begin today in the aggravated murder trial of Goldy Thompson, the second of two brothers charged in the Oct. 24, 2006, slayings of three men in a boarded-up home on Ohio Street.

Thompson, 31, is charged with three counts of aggravated murder, each with gun specifications. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Thompson and his brother, Stoney Thompson, 28, were charged with the deaths of Michael York, Kenneth Nicholson, and Todd Archambeau. The three men were found brutally murdered in Archambeau s home.

After a six-day trial, a jury convicted the younger Thompson on June 10 of three counts of aggravated murder with gun specifications. Judge Ruth Ann Franks sentenced him June 27 to three consecutive life sentences without parole.

A jury of eight women and four men was selected to hear the case against Goldy Thompson, over which Judge Franks also will preside.
