Connecting Point to close
1/15/2009Connecting Point, the Toledo nonprofit agency that provides behavioral health services to youths, will be shutting its doors, Lucas County Administrator Mike Beazley said.
Connecting Point got its start in 1974 with a shelter for runaways and a 24-hour emergency hot line service. It has offered mental health therapy for children and their families, substance abuse treatment, and other services for youths.
Delores Williams, Connecting Point s chief operating officer and interim chief executive, could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday.
The youth agency has a $9 million annual budget.
In October, the agency announced its 24-hour assistance center for children would be temporarily closed.
Funding has changed over the years so that most grants pay per service provided to a child, but even if none was at the 24-hour assistance center, the 1212 Cherry St. assistance center had to remain staffed in case help was needed.
In November, Ms. Williams said: "We do not want to close Connecting Point it would be such a loss to the community Connecting Point is the only agency of its kind in northwest Ohio."
