Fermi 2 is back online, to be at full power soon

NEWPORT, Mich. Fermi 2 is back online and should have its nuclear reactor operating at full power within days, John Austerberry, DTE Energy spokesman, said Friday.

The nuclear plant began its gradual restart Wednesday night. It was producing electricity Friday.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission records show a test-line valve in the plant s high-pressure coolant injection system had to be operated manually to complete a test necessary for restart. DTE was unable to pinpoint the cause of what it had described to the NRC as high vibration levels from a main turbine as Fermi 2 s reactor was being shut down March 28 for the outage, the spokesman said.
