Trevor Casey, the 14-year-old who family members say was beaten up by Toledo police during an arrest Friday, was treated yesterday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, a family representative said.

Stephen Ward, a city council candidate who has become the family's spokesman, said the boy was taken to the hospital about 4 p.m. with slurred speech and body twitching. Mr. Ward said he had no other information and refused to allow family members to speak during a news conference he arranged in front of St. Vincent's at 6 p.m.

A spokesman for the hospital said, as of 6:35 p.m., young Casey was not in the hospital.

Police Chief Mike Navarre said the arrest by the two officers is being investigated by internal affairs after the boy's mother, Karen Casey, filed a complaint.

The case gained attention through a video posted on YouTube showing two officers subduing the youth. The police report said he resisted arrest and fought after he refused to leave a property at the Brand Whitlock Homes in central Toledo where he was allegedly loitering.
