Blade's Pollick gets 3 national writing honors

Outdoors editor Steve Pollick has been presented three national writing awards by the Outdoor Writers Association of America for his work in The Blade in 2008.

Mr. Pollick was awarded a first place for natural history writing in newspapers for "Flying Dragons," a Toledo Magazine/Outdoors Page about dragonflies published on Aug. 31.

Mr. Pollick received a second place in writing about big-game hunting for a column, "Bowhunter shares a lesson in ethics," published Sept. 28, and a third place in writing about fishing for another column, "Antique tackle in vogue for Michigan man," published Sept. 5.

The awards were presented Tuesday at OWAA's 82nd annual conference, held this year in Grand Rapids, Mich.
