Home used in training fire hit by possible arson

7/2/2009

Area fire crews put out a blaze early yesterday at an old house off Monroe Street in Sylvania used the day before for a training session involving local officials.

The fire was reported at 2:30 a.m., more than 14 hours after two Sylvania City Council members and two Sylvania Township trustees took part in a training exercise at the vacant house along Ten Mile Creek.

It was more than coincidence, Deputy Chief Jeff Kowalski said. Fire was through the roof, and the rear door was open when firefighters arrived.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

We re marking it as suspicious, Chief Kowalski said.
