On eve of prison, man asks to vacate guilty plea

The day he was to be sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a South Toledo man, Enrique Martinez requested in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Monday to withdraw his guilty plea.

Martinez, 18, of 414 Courtland Ave., pleaded guilty Friday to murder in the death of David Taylor, Sr.

He faced life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years when he appeared before Judge Ruth Ann Franks for sentencing.

Instead, he asked that he be allowed to withdraw his plea. Judge Franks set a Thursday hearing and appointed another lawyer to address the issue.
