Grant to Wood County to aid road patrols

10/12/2009

With extra funding from the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Wood County sheriff's deputies will conduct extra traffic enforcement beginning this month.

Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said all roads would be patrolled through the $47,461 grant, but deputies would focus on U.S. 6, U.S. 20, State Routes 199 and 281, and Sand Ridge, Sugar Ridge, and Liberty Hi roads.

Deputies will be on the lookout for motorists driving under the influence and violations such as failure to yield and speeding. Wood County has recorded 16 fatal accidents so far this year.
