LAMBERTVILLE — New Bedford Academy on Secor Road was closed Tuesday after nearly one third of the students in the charter school became sick with a high fever.

Principal Greg Sauter said that the H1N1 flu virus hasn't been confirmed in any of the students who were ill on Monday.

"That was our major concern. But no one has indicated that they have a confirmed case," he said.

Mr. Sauter said three of the public academy's nine teachers were also sick on Monday.

He said the Monroe County Health Department recommended that parents keep their children out of school for at least 24 hours after the fever has broken.

The kindergarten through eight grade school has 136 students.
