10/29/2009

Arraignment of a Toledo police officer who was to appear in Toledo Municipal Court to face charges that he was drunk while on duty behind the wheel of a patrol car was postponed from yesterday to Nov. 10 at the defense's request, according to court records.

James W. Breier, 53, a 27-year veteran of the Toledo Police Department, was arrested Friday afternoon and accused of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol when he responded to a traffic crash and appeared intoxicated, according to police records.

He was booked into the Lucas County jail and released after he posted $500 bond.

Officer Breier postponed the administrative investigation until after his criminal case is complete, thus removing himself from duty without pay.

He had been suspended without pay since the incident occurred about 1:45 p.m. Friday, police said.
