Bond set at $150,000 in fatal beating case

Friends and relatives of Marland Woods were distraught during the arraignment of the man accused of stomping him to death Dec. 19 near a downtown bar.

"I hope he never returns to the streets," Mr. Woods' life partner Brian Hunker, 43, said of Terrance Osley, 20, of 1815 Lagrange St., just before the arraignment yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Osley's bond was set at $150,000 after he was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Mr. Woods, 33.

" I have so much anger," said Shonda Floyd, 35, Mr. Woods' sister.

"It's given me a lot of relief to know that they have [Osley] in custody, but that's not enough because my brother is gone. And to know him was to love him," she said.

Osley looked subdued and appeared to avoid eye contact with others in the courtroom. Judge Lynn Schaefer ordered him held in Lucas County jail pending his next court appearance on Monday. His case was continued until that date at the request of his lawyer.

Police have said about 2:45 a.m. Dec. 19, across Ontario Street from Caesar's, in the Greyhound bus station parking lot, Mr. Woods was kicked and his head stomped. Earlier in the evening, Osley was escorted out of the bar for causing trouble with a staff member's parents, according to Jeff Gesler, new owner of the bar, which changes its name to Fascination! today.
