A man was hurt seriously early Monday when his vehicle struck a tree and a utility pole in Erie County's Berlin Township, authorities said.

Zachary Klaiber, 21, of Berlin Heights, suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to Fisher Titus Medical Center, Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mr. Klaiber was southbound on Humm Road south of Mason Road when he lost control of his sport-utility vehicle. After going off the left side of the road, he overcorrected and struck a tree and a utility pole on the right side of the roadway. He was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the wreck, troopers said.

Berlin Township is about 71 miles east of Toledo.
