FINDLAY — Following a flurry of protest, the Ohio Department of Transportation said yesterday it will not close the intersection of Western Avenue and U.S. 68/State Rt. 15 just south of Findlay.
ODOT now plans to maintain access to the four-lane expressway from both directions but will close the median, meaning motorists will not be able to cross the highway there.
Effective Feb. 1, traffic on Western Avenue only will be able to enter the highway northbound. Southbound traffic will exit only at Liberty Township Road 81.
Emergency responders, nearby residents, and city officials were concerned that closing the intersection would compromise emergency response to properties on the south side of the highway.
