Owens Corning reports sales down, loss in fourth quarter 2009

Owens Corning on Wednesday reported a loss of $21 million, or 17 cents a share, for the fourth quarter of 2009, better than the loss of $34 million, or 27 cents a share, for the same period of 2008, the Toledo firm said.

For the year, the construction materials company reported profits of $64 million, or 50 cents a share, up significantly from the loss of $813 million, or $6.38 a share, for 2008.

Sales for the final quarter of 2009 were $1.16 billion, down 10 percent from the $1.29 billion for the same period a year earlier.

For the year, OC had sales of $4.8 billion, down 18 percent from 2008.
