About 45 residents of the Toledo school district spoke Thursday evening at Rogers High School at the Board of Education's second and last public hearing to receive feedback on how best to close a $30 million budget gap projected for next year.

That's half the number who spoke Wednesday at the board's first hearing at Start High School.

The board is soliciting public input before it implements a list of cuts that could mean closing schools, including Libbey High School and Toledo Technology Academy, and eliminating athletics.

Bonnie Herrmann was a typical speaker. She urged the board to cut costs through such measures as outsourcing payroll and benefits administration before closing schools.
