Funds released for railroad link at shipyard in East Toledo

5/10/2010

The Ohio Rail Development Commission has released $119,830 in stimulus-related funding for construction of a rail link from the Toledo Shipyard to the main railroad.

Kraft Foods, adjacent to the Toledo Shipyard, is served by Norfolk Southern Railroad, and the shipyard spur will be extended from that track.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority said the 300-foot rail connection will allow large-scale production to move easily in and out of the shipyard on the Maumee River in East Toledo. It is operated by Ironhead Marine.

The funds were supplied through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Diversified Road & Pipe Inc. is handling the construction, which has begun.
