Nuclear agency honors official for work in area

WASHINGTON — Mark Satorius, a Nuclear Regulatory Commission regional administrator who oversees Davis-Besse, Fermi 2, and other Midwestern nuclear plants, was one of eight senior agency officials to whom President Obama last week presented distinguished or meritorious executive rank awards for their 2009 service.

Mr. Satorius, a 19-year agency employee, received a meritorious executive rank award. He was cited for being proactive on safety issues and for developing a reactor-inspection program “that has been a model for other regions.”

The agency said fewer than 5 percent of its employees receive the meritorious award and that fewer than 1 percent receive the distinguished executive rank award. The honorees are to be recognized at a ceremony in June.
