A pickup truck stolen in South Toledo early Sunday morning crashed into a car in East Toledo in the afternoon during a police pursuit, injuring the drivers of both vehicles and a passenger, police said.

The pickup was stolen in a burglary on Muirfield Avenue between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m., Sgt. Bill Wauford said. Then about

3:55 p.m., a police officer sighted the pickup at East Broadway and Navarre Avenue. A pursuit started, slowly at first, but the pickup and police cruisers were soon traveling above posted speed limits.

The pickup hit a delivery truck parked in the 600 block of Oswald Street, causing moderate damage.

The pursuit, with two patrol cars following the pickup, ended after about four minutes at Sheldon Street and Starr Avenue, where the pickup crashed into a car driven by Jennifer Beumel, 32, of Toledo, the sergeant said.

The driver of the pickup, Roy S. Johnson, 28, fled on foot, but was soon captured by officers, the sergeant said. Police last night had addresses for him in both Sylvania Township and the Swanton area.

Both drivers as well as Ms. Beumel's passenger, Cori Atkins, 38, of Toledo were being treated in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center's emergency room last night.

When Mr. Johnson is out of the hospital, he is expected to be charged with crimes including receiving stolen property and failure to comply and to be booked into jail, Sergeant Wauford said.
