Two hearings set on hiking Sandusky Co. sales tax

6/25/2010

FREMONT — Sandusky County commissioners could raise the county's sales tax by 0.25 percent for three years and Thursday scheduled two public hearings on the issue.

Residents will have the opportunity to comment on the tax-hike proposal at 2 p.m. July 12 and 6 p.m. July 16 at the commissioners' office.

The 0.25 percent increase, which would raise the county's overall sales tax from 6.75 percent to 7 percent, would generate about $1,375,000 in new revenue a year. Commissioners said the tax increase would help make up for lost revenue from the state and enable the county to maintain current services.
