Ottawa Hills grad drowns in New York

MAHOPAC, N.Y. — A recent Ottawa Hills High School graduate drowned in a residential swimming pool in this community, authorities said.

Alexander Schleutermann, 18, was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. Saturday at the Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, N.Y. An autopsy Monday by the Westchester Medical Examiner's Office confirmed drowning as the cause of death, according to the town of Carmel police department.

At 3:48 p.m. Saturday, Mr. Schleutermann was brought out of the pool by the homeowner and his guests, who performed CPR and called 911.

A short time later, rescue personnel arrived and took the victim to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, N.Y., where he was stabilized and then was transported to the Westchester Medical Center, police said.

Mahopac is about 50 miles northeast of New York City.
