A man charged with shooting two people in an attempted robbery outside a North Toledo convenience store was indicted Tuesday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Anthony Wheatley, Jr., 28, of 511 Church St. was charged with aggravated robbery with a gun specification and two counts of felonious assault with gun specifications. If convicted, he faces up to 35 years in prison.

Authorities said a man approached a vehicle about 11:50 p.m. July 29 outside the Pick and Go Mart convenience store on Galena Street and demanded money from the passenger. When he refused, the suspect punched him in the face and ended up firing two shots at the vehicle when the driver attempted to drive off.

Injured was Jeff Malkowski, 22, of North Toledo, who was shot in the back, and Brandi Rogers, 19, of West Toledo, who was shot in the leg.

Wheatley remains in custody at the Lucas County jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
