BOWLING GREEN — Organizers of the Save the Woods Campaign hope to raise enough money at a Sept. 24 wine and cheese party to make the final payment on a nearly 20-acre expansion of the Wintergarden Park/St. John's Nature Preserve.

Tickets are on sale now for the party, which is sponsored by the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation with help from the Bowling Green Rotary, Kiwanis, and Exchange clubs.

The event will include an auction of items including trips, art work, and gift baskets.

Proceeds will be used to purchase and preserve what organizers consider the last large wooded parcel inside the city limits. About $385,000 has been raised so far, although about $95,000 still is needed.

The wine and cheese party is to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Garden Park. Tickets are $30 per person. More information is available from the city parks and recreation office.
