BOWLING GREEN — The Wood County Sheriff's Office has received a $49,328 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety Traffic Safety Office to step up traffic enforcement throughout the county.

Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said deputies will target U.S. 6, State Rts. 25, 199, and 281, and Sand Ridge, Sugar Ridge, and Liberty Hi roads with a goal of reducing fatalities.

Deputies will watch for drunken driving, failure to yield, and speeding, all leading factors in fatal crashes. Wood County has had 11 fatal road accidents so far in 2010.
