A Toledo man was in jail Monday after he was arrested and accused of using a shotgun to shoot another man in the abdomen in West Toledo the night before, authorities said.

Charles Monica, 26, of 3873 Westland Ave. was being kept in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court. He was charged with felonious assault in the shooting of Tijay Simpson, 22, of North Lockwood Avenue, who was taken to Toledo Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.

Police responding to a report of a person shot arrived about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at 3873 Westland Ave. and found the victim suffering from multiple shotgun-pellet wounds to the abdominal area. About a half-hour later, the officers arrested the suspect, who had returned to the scene and was taken into custody, police said.

No motive was given and the shooting is under investigation.
