ODNR probes death of duck hunter

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said Sunday it was continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a duck hunter, whose body was recovered Saturday from Metzger Marsh in Jerusalem Township.

ONDR spokesman Heide Hetzel-Evans said Joseph Hartford, 28, of Graytown, Ohio, was recovered by a water rescue unit of the Lucas County Sheriff's Office about 6 p.m.

She didn't know if he was found in the water. The shooting occurred between around 4:15 p.m. Saturday while he was hunting with two others, who have not been identified.

She said Mr. Hartford's body was found “very far back” in Metzger Marsh and the sheriff's office was instrumental in recovering the body.

An autopsy is scheduled Monday.
