Toxic leak evacuates Adrian, Mich., plant, puts schools on delay

ADRIAN, Mich. — A toxic leak at a chemical manufacturing plant in Adrian early Monday caused plant evacuation and put city schools on delay, authorities said.

The Chemtura Corp. plant at 1400 East Michigan St. was evacuated after a leak of liquid bromine was discovered about 5:30 a.m., according to the Adrian fire department.

Adrian Public Schools is on an hour delay because of the leak.

There were no reports of serious injuries, a fire dispatcher said.

The company specializes in plastic additives, according to its Web site.

Adrian, the Lenawee County seat, is about 35 miles northwest of Toledo.
