TIFFIN — Four people were cold but uninjured when their car broke through the ice on the Sandusky River.

According to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, Robert J. Schreiner, 43, of Tiffin on Thursday afternoon drove onto the frozen river to test the ice because he planned to go ice fishing.

Mr. Schreiner and three passengers were able to escape through the driver's side door as the car broke through the ice, but it took more than 20 rescue personnel to free the partially submerged car. Charges are pending against Mr. Schreiner.
