A 27-year-old son of a Toledo firefighter was killed in an early Saturday morning blaze at his home, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Curtis Johnson, Jr., the son of Curtis W. Johnson, a city firefighter for 27 years.

The cause of the fire at 2015 Calumet Ave. at about 4:30 a.m. was still under investigation.

Fire Chief Mike Wolever said it appears to have started in a wall in the back of the house. The victim was found on the floor of the living in the front of the house. There were smoke detectors present and functioning, the chief said.

The victim was home alone at the time of the fire. His father was on duty at the time of the fire but was not dispatched to the scene, the chief said.
