Regional shelters share in grants from state

Aurora Project Inc., Beach House, and Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo are among 10 organizations across Ohio slated to receive state grants to improve their emergency shelters.

Aurora Project will receive $59,500 to install air conditioning in its kitchen, dining room, and offices. Beach House will get $87,500 to improve three bathrooms, and Catholic Charities will receive $29,200 to install a fire alarm and upgrade the security system at La Posada emergency shelter.

The Volunteers of America of Northwest Ohio in Erie County will receive $49,900 to replace mechanical systems and windows at an emergency shelter, and the YWCA of Van Wert County will get $78,400 for upgrades in a transitional housing facility.

The grants — totaling $600,000 across the state — are distributed by the Ohio Department of Development's Office of Housing and Community Partnerships.
