I-75/275 bridge work to resume in Michigan

MONROE — A two-year, $12.8 million bridge repair project on I-75 and I-275 will resume next week when a Michigan Department of Transportation contractor reduces LaPlaisance Road to one lane at I-75 to overhaul its bridge there.

Later portions of the work will include the Newport Road bridge over I-75, the I-275 bridge over Telegraph Road, and bridges within the I-75/I-275 junction, all north of Monroe. The construction will require some ramps to close, and may involve double-lane closings on I-75 at night.

Traffic on the LaPlaisance bridge and, once that's done, the Newport bridge will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic governed by stoplights. The LaPlaisance work is set for completion in mid-June, after which the crew will shift to Newport.

The work on I-275 at Telegraph will require closing cloverleaf ramps at that interchange and reducing I-275 and Telegraph to one lane each way. That work won't start until summer, MDOT spokesman Kari Arend said.

At the I-75/I-275 junction, the ramp leading from southbound I-275 to northbound I-75 will be detoured while its bridge is repaired, but the far busier ramp from northbound I-75 to northbound I-275, a key link in the route between Toledo and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, will keep one lane open.

Ms. Arend said she did not have information Wednesday about when the bridge work at the I-75/I-275 junction will start.
