Contractor uncovers human bones in Fremont
4/21/2011FREMONT — Human bones that could be a century old were unearthed this week at the site of the former Clauss Cutlery plant on Fremont’s east side.
A contractor excavating ground for the city found bones but no skull, buried about four feet deep Monday. Police Chief Tim Wiersma, who said detectives have been researching the origin of the bones, said it was very unlikely that foul play was involved.
Sandusky County Coroner Dr. John Wukie examined the bones and concluded they were human, that they likely were from the same person, and could be 100 years old or older. Chief Wiersma said experts from Heidelberg University in Tiffin were expected to examine them before the city determines where to rebury them.
