Mom's House to salute Weemes at dinner

Mom's House of Toledo, a nonprofit organization that supports the educational efforts of low-income, young single mothers, will mark its 18th anniversary with a dinner and auction Friday evening at The Pinnacle in Maumee.

Amy Weemes of Toledo, this year's Mom's House champion, will be the guest of honor.

Expected to attend are Tim Beckman, University of Toledo football coach, and several members of his staff, who will congratulate Ms. Weemes and the elder of her two sons, Eric Page, a Sporting News All-America kickoff returner last season as a sophomore at UT. Younger son DJ Weemes is a senior student-athlete at Springfield High School.

"Amy faced all the financial and emotional struggles of raising children as a single parent, yet she always pushed for a bright future for her boys," said Christina Rodriguez, executive director of Mom's House. "Her story resounds loudly in the lives of the young mothers at Mom's House and has encouraged them to persevere and build hope for their own families."

Ms. Weemes will be a presenter at weekly parent education meetings conducted by Mom's House, Ms. Rodriquez added.

Past Mom's House honorees include Gladys Knight, Kaye Lani Rafko-Wilson, and Mary Beth Zolik of radio station 101.5 The River (WRVF-FM).

Tickets to the dinner are $100 each, or $950 for a table of 10. Ms. Weemes and her sons meet with guests at 6:30 p.m., and the formal proceedings begin at 7 p.m.
