BOWLING GREEN — The city-county park behind the Big Lots store in Bowling Green officially has been named the Black Swamp Preserve.

The Wood County Park District’s board of park commissioners agreed Monday to name the 66-acre natural area, which backs up to Kenwood Elementary and the Montessori School of Bowling Green.

Also on Monday, park commissioners agreed to name the second-floor meeting room inside the nature center at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve in Perrysburg Township as the Friends Green Room, honoring both the Friends of the Wood County Parks organization for its $18,000 donation, and the “green,” environmentally friendly materials used in construction.

The room will be used both for park programs and rentals. It is expected to be completed within the next few weeks, Park District Director Neil Munger said.
