The summer solstice occurred at 1:16 p.m. Toledo time Tuesday, and the local weather was typical for the season: hot and humid.

The National Weather Service reported a high temperature of 93 degrees at 3:46 p.m. at Toledo Express Airport, a few degrees warmer than had been the forecast for the day, but hardly a threat to the June 21 record of 100, set in 1988.

The juicy air mass over northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan was expected to spawn scattered thunderstorms in the region Tuesday evening, and more stormy weather was expected Wednesday and Thursday.

It was expected to be warm and sticky through Wednesday evening, with cooler air due Thursday and drier conditions by Saturday.

The solstice occurs June 21 annually in the northern hemisphere, and is the time at which the sun is at its northernmost point in the sky, resulting in the longest daylight hours and shortest night of the year.
