Water and sewer utility warns of reward scam

Toledo’s Department of Public Utilities warns water and sewer customers to be aware of a scam that offers a reward of up to $750,000. A con artist posing as a representative of “Winners International” has been offering the reward to good utility customers who transfer $499.99 through Western Union.

The department said it does not offer cash rewards, and its representatives do not contact customers except for past-due balances. Citizens who believe they are a victim should call the Toledo Police Department’s investigative services at 419-245-3142.
