LaSALLE -- Longtime LaSalle Township Supervisor Larry Rutledge has been given the Life Member award by the Michigan Townships Association for exemplary public service.

Mr. Rutledge served a one-year term as president of the MTA in 1997.

He has been LaSalle's supervisor since 1988. He also served as township clerk from 1984 to 1988, was a trustee from 1980 to 1984, and treasurer from 1975 through 1978.

Mr. Rutledge, who plans to retire at the end of the year, said the best part of his job has been dealing with people.

"For 35 years as an elected official, I have had the pleasure of working with thousands of local residents and hundreds of businesses," he said.
