SPECIAL REPORT: TOLEDO'S CHINA CONNECTION

A Message from the publisher and editor-in-chief

2/19/2012

For many years, Blade editors and reporters have looked out to the wide world in reporting for the newspaper.

Whether it was editor-in-chief Grove Patterson interviewing Prime Minister Winston Churchill in blacked-out London during World War II, or longtime, London-based foreign correspondent Fernand Auberjonois reporting from many world backwaters, The Blade took its readers to foreign lands with explanatory journalism delving into the politics, power, and business affairs of other countries.

Inveterate Blade readers will remember many tours abroad by Blade reporters over the years and the newspaper's large volume of other foreign coverage from diverse sources. The Blade is proud of that legacy and of its editors' deep experience handling such coverage from abroad.

The three-part series that started Feb. 19 on Toledo's Chinese investors continues the finest tradition of The Blade's foreign reporting. The histories of the two principals of Dashing Pacific, which has acquired Toledo's Docks and much of the Marina District, will now be better known in the city. We think Blade readers are interested in knowing more about the backgrounds of Wu Kin Hung and Yuan Xiaohong, seen by many as Toledo's partners in future progress.
