Perrysburg will no longer be a member of the TARTA after voters approved leaving the transit agency with nearly 57 percent of the vote, according to Tuesday’s unofficial election results.

Perrysburg City Councilman J. Todd Grayson, one of the most vocal city officials on the TARTA issue, said he was not surprised by the voters’ decision or the margin of victory.

“I think it’s important we severed a contract,” Mr. Grayson said. “This isn’t so much as getting rid of TARTA as it is getting rid of a bad contract.”

For years, Perrysburg officials have complained they are overcharged by the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority, and the issue was brought up during a series of heated public meetings in 2011 where transit riders voiced their concerns about losing bus service.
