Concert band to perform Sousa, honor WWII vet

PORT CLINTON -- Port Clinton High School's concert band will pay tribute to John Philip Sousa at its Saturday concert at the high school's Performing Arts Center.

Rod Miller, the high school band director, will portray the composer and conductor known for American military and patriotic marches.

The concert band will pay a special tribute to Harold Brown of Port Clinton, one of the Tuskegee Airmen and a member of the famed "Red Tails" who fought during World War II.

Guest soloists will include Dan Bentley, euphonium player with the Air Force Band of Flight, and Felita Rowe, vocalist with the Air Force Band of Flight, along with the Terra Choral Society.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and seating is open. A free-will donation will be taken at the end of the free concert.

The Port Clinton Music Boosters will provide a barbecue chicken dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Cost is $8.50. Tickets can be purchased from Port Clinton band, choir, and orchestra members or at the high school.
