Seneca Co. Courthouse items shown by museum

TIFFIN -- The Seneca County Museum will display for the first time some of the items found in the cornerstone of the now-demolished 1884 courthouse at a fund-raiser tonight at the Tiffin Eagles ballroom.

 

Proceeds will go toward helping to keep the local history museum at 28 Clay St. open.

 

Last fall, Seneca County Commissioners threatened to close and liquidate the museum, but, after a public outcry, agreed to lease the museum to the Seneca County Historical Society for one year.

 

The county said it would no longer contribute any money to its operation, though. Last year, county officials said they spent about $42,000 for the director's salary, utilities, and insurance. Museum organizers estimated earlier this year that they need $15,000 to $17,000 for utilities, insurance, and related expenses.

 

The fund-raiser begins with a dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a dance from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Tickets, which are available at the door, are $20 for the dinner and dance or $10 for the dance only.
