It’s that time of year when residents tackle fall yard work, yank no-longer-flowering plants, prune branches, and tidy up landscapes. In Sylvania, unwanted yard material can be placed at the curb for collection during the city’s last special green yard-waste pickup and the last regular pickup for the season, the city has announced.

Schedule A pickup will be the week of Nov. 5. Schedule B pickup will be the week of Nov. 12. An official green yard-waste bag is not needed; green yard waste can be placed in a garbage can or other suitable container without the lid. Paper grocery bags or cardboard boxes also can be used. Plastic bags will not be accepted.

Branches should be cut into 4-foot lengths, then bundled into an 18 to 24-inch diameter, and tied with string. Bags, containers, or bundles cannot weigh more than 60 pounds each.

The city also set its winter schedule. December through March, green yard-waste pickup will be the second full week of each month only. Residents must call a week ahead for this service.
